The WYSO Board and staff believe a WYSO member can experience significant individual growth in a setting totally apart from the daily support network of home and school. We believe the WYSO touring experience offers development potential for a member to grow independently, to increase teamwork skills and to build on the strengths of the family/school network while outside of that environment.
Every WYSO season, each orchestra gives concerts in Madison and throughout the state. Philharmonia Orchestra generally performs in a scheduled one-day tour. Concert Orchestra and Sinfonietta typically embark on a local one-day tour to area schools or school-based cultural events. Youth Orchestra performance opportunities vary from season to season.
WYSO pays most of the tour fees but may ask members to pay for their meal costs and other special events while on the tour (e.g., museum tours, a professional orchestra concert, etc.)
Please be advised that in-state tours of all orchestras require that the member miss at least one day of school per year.
Concert Orchestra – November 10
Philharmonia Orchestra – November 12
Sinfonietta – March 16
A national or international tour is one that promises Youth Orchestra members a substantial musical opportunity, including formal concerts for large audiences, musical exchanges with other groups and a challenging new environment.
The cost of international touring is not included in WYSO tuition. Members who seek major tour scholarship assistance are expected to participate fully in WYSO fundraising activities that are intended to help defray per-person costs.
