The Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras was founded in 1966 by Dr. Marvin Rabin. Educational achievement lies at the heart of the WYSO program. Widely regarded as one of the finest youth orchestra programs in the nation, WYSO offers orchestral training and performance opportunities for youth ages 8-18. WYSO serves upwards of 450 young musicians from more than 80 Wisconsin communities each year. WYSO students become excellent musicians and develop a life-long appreciation for the arts.
WYSO members commit to:
- Saturday rehearsals (occasionally on Sunday) from September to May on the UW- Madison Campus
- Three major concerts each season
- A one-day in-state tour (Sinfonietta, Concert and Philharmonia Orchestras)
- An international tour every two years (Youth Orchestra only)
