Geri Hamilton

Sinfonietta Conductor Geri Hamilton is a proud six-year WYSO alumna, starting as a 2nd violinist in the pilot year of the Sinfonietta Orchestra. Ms. Hamilton graduated with a Bachelor’s in Music Education from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and spent the first three years of her teaching career in the Waunakee School District, working with 5th and 6th grade orchestra students. In March of 2007, she became the Orchestra Director at Stoughton High School where she conducted four string ensembles, coached chamber music, collaborated with the choir and band departments on works such as Carmina Burana, conducted the pit orchestra for their annual fall musical, and planned student tours to destinations such as Seattle, Chicago and Boston.

In the fall of 2015, Ms. Hamilton returned to teaching beginning strings in the Oregon School District (where she is also a native) and has truly enjoyed a renewed energy that comes with teaching 10 year olds! Not only has Ms. Hamilton been a violinist with the Madison Symphony Orchestra since 2004 but she also enjoys playing in the pit for musicals, jamming on her electric fiddle in the Christian rock band Ephetha, and gigging with her husband, John. Maintaining her skills as a musician has always been a top priority as a music educator and setting the best example for her students. Photo by Katrin Talbot.
