Tom Curry

A native of Appleton, Wisconsin, Tom Curry has served as Director of Brass Choirs for the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras since 2016. He is currently the tubist in the Wisconsin Brass Quintet, a faculty ensemble-in-residence at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and has performed with the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, the Madison Symphony, the Joffrey Ballet and the Milwaukee Symphony. He has also appeared with numerous rock and popular acts, including the Chicago-based punk marching band Mucca Pazza. Tom’s solo playing has been recognized at international competitions, including the Aeolus International Competition for Wind Instruments and the Leonard Falcone International Euphonium and Tuba Competition. In 2016, he was invited to perform a solo recital at the International Tuba and Euphonium Conference in Knoxville, Tennessee. An advocate for modern music, Tom is currently preparing to release a solo album of contemporary works for tuba.

Tom was appointed Adjunct Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Mead Witter School of Music in 2014. In addition to teaching applied tuba and euphonium, Tom coaches brass chamber ensembles and co-conducts the University of Wisconsin Low Brass Ensemble. He presents master classes and clinics throughout the country and teaches tuba and euphonium at the University of Wisconsin Summer Music Clinic.

Tom holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree as well as a Master of Music degree in tuba performance from Northwestern University. He also earned degrees in tuba performance and communication arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
