Piano in WYSO

Audition to be the WYSO Pianist

WYSO is holding auditions for pianists interested in joining its advanced Youth Orchestra for the 2017-18 season.  Since a substantial amount of this season’s repertoire calls for an advanced pianist, this will be a designated position in the Youth Orchestra for this season.  Preference will be given to students who can commit to the 2018 Youth Orchestra International Tour to Peru.

The audition will include:

  1. Scales (3 octaves, hands together, up to 4 sharps/4 flats; also chromatic scale)
  2. Solo: 3 minutes in length; this should be an advanced level piece (or excerpt) at Grade 6 difficulty or higher. Examples would be movements from sonatas by Mozart, Beethoven, Scarlatti, Bach WTC Preludes and Fugues, an excerpt from a standard concerto, etc.  Your solo should represent your highest level of playing.  Please bring a single judge’s copy of this piece.
  3. Sightreading

Auditions will be held on Wednesday, August 30, from 4 to 6pm at the UW-Madison Humanities Bldg. 455 N. Park St.  To schedule your audition, please click:
