WYSO Families First Fund

In response to the economic challenges facing the families of WYSO student musicians due to COVID-19, WYSO is pleased to announce the launch of the WYSO Families First Fund Scholarship.

The goal is to support families facing economic challenges as a result of the COVID-19 crisis, providing peace of mind that their student musicians will be able to continue studying music in a world that has become increasingly uncertain.

We are asking all families that are facing economic challenges due to COVID-19 to submit a WYSO Families First Fund Scholarship Application by May 31, 2020, if possible.

For this application, it does not matter if you are Reserving a Seat or Applying to Audition, if your plans include being a part of WYSO in Fall of 2020 and your family finances have been affected by COVID-19, please submit a Families First Fund Scholarship Application.

This application will require a brief explanation of how COVID -19 has changed your family financial situation. Applications will continue to be accepted throughout the year if circumstances change for a member’s family. Scholarship awards will be based on funds available.

WYSO strives to keep costs as low as possible for families. Tuition fees cover less than 30% of the cost for each student to participate. The balance is made up through fundraising efforts of the WYSO Board, staff and members. The WYSO Board of Directors encourages members with a financial need to apply for a scholarship. It is a policy that every family should contribute at least a portion of the cost for the benefits received. Consequently, full scholarships are not awarded and amounts awarded are based on need, available funds, and the number of applicants. Scholarships are not based on musical merit.

The types of scholarships available are described below. The scholarship application deadline for the 2020-2021 season is Saturday, September 5, 2020. Late applications are not considered. All applications are handled in the strictest confidence and in the most timely manner possible.
