The mission of the Wisconsin Youth Symphony is “enriching lives by providing transformational musical opportunities and experiences”. Each year WYSO offers a full array of the finest orchestral training and performance opportunities to over 400 qualified young musicians between the ages of 8 and 18. Three full orchestras, two string orchestras, a chamber music program and a full array of ensembles and workshops make up the core of the WYSO program. A Concerto Competition is held annually with the winners performing at the spring concerts. Performances are integral to the WYSO program. Three concerts, tours, recitals, special collaborative concerts and community outreach are part of the WYSO experience. Rehearsals take place Saturday mornings throughout the academic year on the campus of the University of Wisconsin Madison. Tuition and private lesson scholarships are available to all who qualify.
