Orchestra Repertoire

The repertoire of each orchestra is carefully selected by each conductor, with consideration given to its educational value, artistic quality, instrumentation, and programmatic ability. While each member may not be individually challenged by every work, it is important to consider how the ensemble sounds as a whole.

Even professional musicians play pieces which are not challenging, but playing these pieces well makes the musician a professional. Musicians should talk with their conductor if they have questions about the repertoire, if they are not feeling challenged, if they are feeling too challenged, or if they would simply like to know more about the pieces you are playing.
