Reconnect with WYSO at the Alumni Reunion

All WYSO alumni are cordially invited to attend the UW School of Music and WYSO Alumni Reunion October 25 through October 27. The reunion is in conjunction with the Hamel Music Center opening weekend celebration. Highlights from the weekend include an opportunity to attend the official Hamel Music Center ribbon cutting, observe a WYSO rehearsal in Mills Hall, play in a reading rehearsal, and of course, reconnect with WYSO friends.

SCHEDULE FOR WEEKEND EVENTS

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 25  

Reunion In-Person Check-in and Coffee: 2-4:30 pm
(Mills Hall Lobby, Humanities Building)

Hamel Music Center Opening Reception & Ribbon Cutting, 5 pm
(Foyer of Hamel Music Center)

UW Mead Witter School of Music Collage Concert: 7:30 pm
(Mead Witter Foundation Concert Hall)

NOTES:  Opening Celebration Concerts are FREE but require a ticket. The ticket request process will not be available until later in September.  Reunion registrants will receive a special email announcement with instructions for ordering concert tickets.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 26

Reunion Orchestra Check-In & Coffee:  8 am-12 pm

Observe WYSO Youth Orchestra Rehearsal: 9:30 am
(Mills Hall, Humanities Building)

SOMAA & WYSO Alumni Orchestra – Reading Rehearsal: 10:30-Noon

NOTES: This is an opportunity to make music again with School of Music and WYSO Alumni and favorite repertoire selected by James Smith. The rehearsal is the performance! The Reunion Registration Form gives you the opportunity to sign up for participation in the orchestra and indicate instrument (or request an instrument).  There is no audition – we know you’ve continued to practice!

Reunion Check-In: 1-5 pm
(Mills Hall Lobby, Humanities Building)

NOTES: The Pyle Center, Old Red Gym and Memorial Union are all located on the same block of Langdon Street. On your way to the reception we recommend you stop by the recently remodeled Memorial Union and Union Terrace, as well as Alumni Park located between the Union and the Old Red Gym.

Reunion Reception: 4-7 pm
(Alumni Lounge, Pyle Center)

NOTES: The beautiful Alumni Lounge of the Pyle Center overlooking Lake Mendota is the setting for this reception for alumni and guests, faculty, emeritus faculty, staff, and friends of the School of Music and WYSO.  This block of time may be your best opportunity to talk with others who have been connected to you and the School of Music in some way.  You can make the substantial Hors d Oeuvres your dinner and then walk the short distance to attend evening performances at the Hamel Music Center.  There will be music and a brief program at 6 pm.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 27

Reunion Brunch, 10:30-12:30

NOTES: Return to the beautiful Alumni Lounge of the Pyle Center Sunday morning for an “Elegant Brunch” and conversations with other alumni and guests, faculty, emeritus faculty, staff, and friends of the School of Music and WYSO.  There will be music and stories, but mostly it is another time to celebrate and reflect on the significant events and connections of the weekend.

Recital by Collins Fellowship Alumni, 1:00 pm
(Collins Recital Hall)

NOTES: We welcome the return of eight of our 65 Collins Fellows, recipients of fully funded graduate fellowships. The concert will feature Ilia Radoslavov (piano); Iva Ugrcic (flute); Elias Goldstein (viola); Jamie-Rose Guarrine (soprano); Todd Hammes (percussion); Satoko Hayami (collaborative piano); Jamie Ryan (percussion); and Dylan Chmura-Moore (trombone).
