Position:              Conductor Opus One

The Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra seeks a conductor for the WYSO Opus One Orchestra.  Opus One is a new, beginning level string orchestra comprised of musicians ages 8-12 years of age.    Opus One rehearses 20 Saturday mornings during the academic year.  The orchestra will give one concert.

The establishment of the Opus One Orchestra reflects a response to an increasing number of string auditions over the past five years and our commitment to realize our stated vision of providing a full range of innovative instrumental music education and performance opportunities accessible to ALL dedicated young people.

Founded in 1966 by Marvin Rabin, the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras is widely regarded as one of the top youth orchestra programs in the country.   The current WYSO program includes 3 full orchestras, a string orchestra, brass, percussion, harp ensembles and a chamber music program.

Driven by the mission of enriching lives by providing transformational musical experiences and opportunities, WYSO provides the finest orchestral training and performance opportunities to the regions most talented young musicians.

Compensation:  $5,000-$7000

Application Procedure:  Applicants should submit a personal letter of interest, resume and two letters of professional recommendation.    Finalists will be invited to interview and be asked to work with the WYSO/Music Makers Honors Ensembles and the WYSO Sinfonietta Orchestra at a Saturday rehearsal.
